🌬️ Your Lungs Love Clean Air

Take a big breath in. Feel that? Your lungs are like two balloons inside your chest, and every single day they fill up with air thousands of times.

Clean air makes your balloons happy. Smoky, dusty air makes them work harder — kind of like trying to blow up a balloon through a straw full of sand. Not fun!

When cars, buses, and factories burn less fuel, and more of them run on clean electricity instead, the air gets clearer. Clearer air means happier lungs for you, your grandma, and even the birds outside your window.

☀️ Staying Safe on Hot Days

Our planet is warming up, which means some days are getting extra hot — the kind of hot where the pavement feels like it could fry an egg.

Here's how to stay safe and cool, just like a superhero with a cooling cape:

  • Find shade — trees, umbrellas, and awnings are your friends.
  • Drink water — lots of it, even before you feel thirsty.
  • Wear light colours — dark clothes soak up heat like a sponge; light clothes bounce it away.
  • Rest indoors during the hottest part of the afternoon.

Cities are planting more trees and building more shaded walkways for exactly this reason. A shady street can feel many degrees cooler than a sunny one — that's the power of a good tree!

🚲 Moving Your Body Helps Everyone

When you walk to school, ride a bike, or scooter down the street instead of taking a car, two wonderful things happen at once:

  1. You get stronger — your legs, heart, and lungs all get a good workout.
  2. The air stays cleaner — no extra smoke puffing out of an engine.

It's like a two-for-one deal! Every short trip you take on your own two feet (or two wheels) is a tiny gift to your body and a tiny gift to the sky above your city.

🌳 Trees Are Nature's Air Cleaners

Did you know trees are a little bit like air-cleaning machines? Leaves soak up dust and grab onto tiny bits floating in the air, and trees breathe out fresh oxygen for us to use.

That's one more reason a park full of trees is such a great place to play. You get shade AND cleaner air, all from the same leafy friend.

Next time you see a big tree, say thank you. It's working hard for you every single day, even while it just stands there being a tree!

🥤 Water Keeps Your Body Cool

Think of your body like a little car engine. Engines need coolant so they don't overheat — and your body's "coolant" is water!

When you sweat, your body is cooling itself down, just like water cools a hot pavement when you splash it. But if you don't drink enough water, your cooling system runs low, and that's when you can start feeling dizzy or tired.

So on hot days, keep a water bottle close by, like a trusty sidekick. Sip, sip, sip — your body will thank you.

🩺 Doctors and Nurses Are Planet Helpers Too

You might think doctors and nurses only help people who are sick. But many of them are also planet helpers!

They study how hot days affect our bodies, help hospitals use cleaner energy, and teach families how to stay safe and healthy as our world changes. Some doctors even specialise in climate and health — figuring out how a cleaner planet keeps everyone feeling their best.

Maybe one day that planet helper could be you!

Three Scenarios → 2050

If we do great: cities are full of shady trees, clean buses, and safe walking paths. Kids everywhere breathe easy and play outside every single day.

If we do okay: the air is better than before, but some cities still need more shade, more clean transport, and more parks to keep everyone comfortable on hot days.

If we go too slowly: hot days stay hard to handle, and too many people still breathe dusty, smoky air — so lungs and bodies have to work extra hard.

What You Can Do

  • Carry a water bottle and sip often, especially on warm days.
  • Ask a grown-up to walk, bike, or scooter with you instead of driving short trips.
  • Find shady spots to play in when the sun is strongest.
  • Tell a friend one thing you learned about clean air today.
