But here is the magic part: everyone gets a copy of the notebook. All of it. Every page.
So if someone tries to sneak in and change a page — "Actually, Omar never gave the pencil back!" — everyone else looks at their own copy and says, "That's not what our pages say." The trick doesn't work. The truth stays safe, because so many friends are keeping it together.
Pages that hold hands
When a page is full, the class glues it into the notebook right after the last page. Page 7 comes after page 6, always. You can't rip one out or slide a fake one in — the pages are holding hands in a chain.
Grown-ups built a computer version of this. They call the pages blocks, and the glued-together pages a blockchain. Thousands of computers around the world each keep a copy, and they all check each other, all day and all night.
Why does it matter?
Because it's a new way to trust each other without needing one boss to keep the only notebook. People use it to keep track of money, of who owns what, and even of where our food and clothes come from.
